Jigg's Corner with no P.A.

Headed up to Jigg's to do a trio open mic with Evil Dick. On the way up there we realized that we had left Chuck's guitar back at the studio. Called Chuck and told him to stay home until we got there and found out if there was a guitar he could borrow. But when we got to Jigg's the was no open mic happening. No P.A. being set up, nothing. There was a big poster advertising a Thursday open mic so I figured the night for open mic had changed. Called Chuck and told him not to bother. No sooner had I done that than the open mic hosts showed up. Problem was, the vehicle containing the P.A. was (still) stuck up in NY State somewhere. The house keyboards and drums got set up but there was no P.A. so nothing happened at all. Musicians were starting to gather. I went out to the car and got my Real Book, came in and just started playing some cocktail music. Pretty soon Mark joined me on drums, then Bruce joined on bass. We played about 5 songs (Coming Home Baby, Girl from Ipanema, others). By the time we were done there was still no P.A. but a guitarist was about ready to get up and so some instrumentals. I later found out that Mark, on drums, could not hear the keyboards at all (probably because the keyboard amp had a solid back and was in front of him). And Bruce, to whom I was yelling chords, heard nothing but "E ... E ... E ... E!" Considering that, we sounded OK, and at least we got the open mic going.
