Jellyroll at Flamango's

Jellyroll did an "audition" open mic at Flamango's in White House, NJ.

The place was clean and comfortable, and the patrons listened closely as we played our five tunes. There was no room for drums, so we did our tunes as a trio, while our drummer watched. We had to play through the tiny sound system but it still sounded pretty good.

The house guitarist, Rockin' Bob, runs the open mic. He played a few songs, let us go on, then asked us to stay around for later and played a few more. There was only one other set of performers there; after they played, Bob played a couple more and then let us come up again. Bob was a very good player, and also ran the open mic very professionally. He did not get in the way at all, or usurp the other players. We couldn't have had a better host, really.

When we played our second "set" we added the drummer, on snare and hi-hat only.

The club seemed interested in hiring us after that. Plus, I gave out band business cards to about six patrons, because they were either very interested in hearing us again (at Flamango's or elsewhere), or interested in hiring us for a private party. We'll have to see what comes of it.
